I figured out today that Substack has an automated post-reading capability on its app. A screenshot is just above, with an arrow pointing to the “play” button on a recent post of ours in the app.
How cool is that????
This might help me “read” way more Substack posts. I thought some of you might appreciate it for the same reason.
In the automated text-to-voice you get the point of the writing although you don’t get the content or a summary of any links. And there are only a few weird pronunciations… because English is weird, and context changes some pronunciation.
To use this cool feature, download the Substack app on an Android or iThing (Apple) device. And make sure you’re subscribed to Shift the Country for free or paid.
In hindsight, I’m sure Substack has told writers about this feature, but sometimes you have to realize stuff on your own to understand its awesomeness.
Also — there’s a chat feature on the app! We’ve had the chat turned on for Shift the Country for a while now and don’t have people chatting there yet, but we’re hopeful that conversations are coming.
Keep the faith. We’re going to do cool stuff. Great tech helps.
